SkySnap uses your GPS location to calculate the exact positions of planets in your sky. Without location data, we cannot determine which planets are visible from your location.
We use your device's accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass to determine which direction your phone is pointing. This allows us to match your viewing angle with the calculated positions of planets.
Yes! SkySnap works fully without an account. Your discoveries will be saved locally on your device. Creating an account allows you to sync data across devices and maintain persistent streaks.
You can delete your account from the Profile > Settings screen in the app. This will permanently remove all your data from our servers. Alternatively, contact us at app.skysnap@gmail.com.
Try calibrating your compass by moving your phone in a figure-8 pattern. Make sure you're away from strong magnetic fields (speakers, magnets, metal structures). Also ensure you have a clear view of the sky — planets below 5° from the horizon are filtered out.
The Moon is not a planet, so it doesn't appear in challenges, logs, or profile statistics. However, you can still see and detect it in the Explore view as a calibration reference.
